It's not the first time I bring up my grandma in my jewelry or stories... She was indeed an inspiration for me, a strong woman, dedicated and kind! She loved us very much and she practically raised us and taught us a lot of things! Me in particular, I remember the great time we had while watching or helping her bake Cozonaci (Sweet Brad) with cocoa and nuts, cook Sarmale (Sarmals, dumplings) - (even now I really enjoy the wrapping part)-, making jams - I can feel now, while writing this, the taste of Nut Jam in my mouth- , I remember growing up wearing sweaters knitted by her, admiring her crocheted little dolls and flowers, macrames and laces, and crocheted collars and doilies, her knitted blouses and how he taught me knitting and crocheting, how excited I was in making my first knitted little things And how now, I still have a deep love for crochet, wearing but also making it!
My mom has always taught me the best things in the world, how to be strong and commited, how to aim for best and never ever give up what you want, believe and love! She loves making clothes, she handsewed a lot of stuff for her and for me also, she taught me how to do it and especially how to do it right, how to aim for quality and attention to details! Even now I ask her most of the times how she thinks about the piece i work on, if she has a new idea! She draws some sketches and ideas of clothes and even jewelry!
They both taught me to always be the best, to bright and be exactly how I am, and most of all that my beauty comes from my heart!They teach me to wear beads if I love them, even if the world arround doesn't, to be myself the fashion and trend! The importance of lipstick and eyelener, the dresses and scarves, the beautiful shoes and stockings, beautiful lingery to feel great even in sport clothes... They teach me how to dream!
My brother, ohh yes, he's not really an artist in the classical meaning, altough a very exquisite taste can be easily remarked! He has an eye for beautiful things, aesthetics and shapes! Now he's an web developer and, I really think there's a real art in this too, making from numbers and alghoritsm, real images we all can seee (like in websites and games) and admire!
Even my uncle has history in art - he painted, was passionate about photography, draw and did a lot of crafts, he even made jewelry when he was young, to sell them for extra bucks!
They all teach me to be profound, deep and to cherish life and nature, to keep calm in the strongest storm, to find a connection with people and with nature, to polish myself every day with the challenges and experiences I have, to find peace and fulfillment in myself! They teach me to study everything I can and especially myself, to learn, and admire, and to love books, and music, and natire, and beauty.

I think it's really amazing what human mind can create and imagine, how we can give life to dreams with our work, started off our greatest tool: our mind, using our other great tools, the soul and hands!
This piece is dedicated to my family, with a strong heritage, especially in character and in mind, but also in our work or dreams! It is a dream, that has been born very long time ago and it becomes stronger and stronger by every day I live, takes shape and brings fulfillment!
I want to honor this heritage, and to keep the dream alive, to make our dreams come true, in the way we would be happy! This year I will work with my mother at my projects, developing new ones and I hope that will bound us! And i hope one day my uncle will afford or have the gut to return to his first love, painting and creating...and that my brother will find his way to fulfillment in a creative way! My grandma will always live in our hearts and she will be proud of every one of us, protecting and guiding us!
The reason I wanted to participate in this blog hope is that Lori's story about her friend Marianna touched me in a deep and and remembered me about my grandmother! Her birthday was in January, on 30th! An she died, 10 years ago on february, 24th. It was hard to handle for me, and for my family! I was only 18 at the time and I felt i have lost one mother, to which I regret I haven't showed more how much i loved her! I know now that she knew that and she's out there, somewhere in this magnificent universe, sending me good energy and love!
For this hop I created a crocheted collar, embellished with natural beads and leather cords! It's a dream of generations, a combination of what it was and what it will be, it's and expression of hopes and beliefs deep down in our souls!
iIused for this a baumwolle with acryl yarn, in lovely nuances of blues and greens, embellished with leather cords in same colors and natural beads of palm wood, coconut wood, Jackfruit exotic wood and Grey wood!
Why this choice you may ask...well it's pretty simple:
* the colours used in this project remembers of the colours of our eyes (green for my grandmother, brown for my uncle and blus for the rest of us);
* emerald green is the color for Liver Cancer Awarness (the reason my Grandma past away almost 10 years ago),
* blue is for hope and dream, green is for life and nature,
* the wood is for life and growth, strength and protection
* the coconut wood is feminine and fertile, symbolizing protection, family
* the palmwood is very powerful ( because of the durability and self renewing characteristics, never changing it's leaves), symbolizing resurrection, and the cycle and the matrix of life.
In the end, it's all about family, heritage, roots and bounds!

Somehow I missed your blog back in January... I learned lots of what you describe - from my mom, as I didn't have the chance to know either of my grandmothers. We know live in Canada, but Christmas always brings the cabbage rolls (sarmale) and the head cheese (piftie), and the sweet bread is there for both Christmas and Easter (and sometimes in between too!) And if there is something I miss - the nut 'jam'... oh... maybe I should check if there is any place where I can get the young, baby nuts from!
